I remembered what I went through when I was writing my final year exams, the stress and all my research and study, it was hectic but it was memorable for me because I did it alone. So since most schools are in their exams writing season now, I’ve decided to share some hacks I used when I had just one week to exams to study. It might not appeal to some people but I believe with determination you can do more.
1.) Access The Situation: Don’t panic, just realise you made a mistake by not being prepared, but/and you are not ready to give up! At this point, you get the text book or note and jot down the most important key points-headings by headings, formats, and note, write them down, don’t feel weak and don’t let yourself down. Just keep going.
2.) Loose All Distractions: 5 days to exams? All you need at this point is focus!100% of it! Cut down on social media, get yourself a secret and quiet place just for youyour phone, cancel all distracting tabs, give yourself this day(s) for your studies. Keep reading until you are confident.
3.) Always Stay Hydrated: Yep! your brain needs it, did you know water is one of the things that powers the brain so when you read always hydrate your brain. Try as much as you can to avoid energy drinks. In as much as you want to pass your exams, you don’t want to be dead when you pass the exams.
4.) Take Little Breaks: Always give yourself a break after every 40 minutes, let’s say 10 minutes, and don’t do the midnight reading, it would only make you weak. Your brain needs that sleep to store up memories from your studies.
5.) Eat Little: Heavy meals make you feel sleepy, make sure to supplement your food with fruits like bananas, and grape they are nice for study and don’t forget to eat breakfast during all this days.
6.) Test Yourself: Solve past questions to test yourself, through this testing you would be able to access and know your weak points and work towards achieving the best.
7.) Have Faith: You can do it! All you need is a little faith and believe in yourself that you can do it and everything will turn out to be fine.
With all said, that’s how I used to study for exams but one thing I learnt in all of this that I had to be patient with myself, so don’t go about stressing and ‘fozing’ about it, you might be discouraged in a way, don’t feel discouraged you can do it…If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Remember you are the only one holding you from being the best, work today and enjoy tomorrow.
